Virtual Checkout Registers

Virtual Checkout RegistersTM is a feature unique to PlantX.net. Rather than requiring separate sales terminals, cash registers, scanners and printers for each sales isle, PlantX.net can "batch" the point-of-sale process. The concept of Virtual RegistersTM makes this possible.
The distinct feature of PlantX.net is to track each plant as it moves from location to location in the yard. Tracking is performed by scanning a barcode for the location followed by all of the plant barcode tags. This tells the system, at that particular moment, all the following plants are at the location. PlantX.net goes a step further and treats the checkout register as a location. All of the customer's plants are scanned to a Register Card, or effectively, a register location. The customer then takes the Register Card to the cashier for check out. Once the sale is complete, the Register Card is cleared and ready for use in another sale.
This means that checkout can be performed by two or three Palm handheld scanners and one sales terminal. Using wireless Palm devices can streamline checkout by avoiding the need to put the Palm handheld in the cradle in order to sync with PlantX.net.
