Reference: Supplies
From PlantX.net
A Supply is a group of trees that makes up part of your inventory that is in production or ready for sale. The supply represents the quantity of a catalog item that is for sale at some specified time (crop).
The material library lists the types of plants you sell, the catalog extends the material list adding attributes such as container size, and the supply indicates the number of plants available. A catalog item can have several supplies since each supply is also part of a crop or can be kept in more than one location.
A supply is considered finite number of trees and is not perpetual. It is a group of plants that when you decide they are a supply, allocations are made against the supply and shipping occurs from the supply. Adjustments can be made if new plants are found or two supplies are merged, or plants are disposed, but once the supply is depleted, another supply will be created to takes it place. Treating the supply as a single finite group allows the group to be consumed, and once completely consumed, archived as a historical record. This is the chief reason a supply is associated with a crop, where typically a grower will sell off a different crop from year to year.
Properties
- Crop
- All supplies belong to one crop or another. The crop is a general grouping and typically indicates when the plant will be sold. See the crop reference for details.
- Stock Quantity
- The number of plants that make up the supply. This is the gross figure, that represents the initial quantity. When orders are placed against the supply, the net amount, or available amount is always calculated by reducing the stock by the total number allocated.
- Advertised Max Stock
- Use the Advertised Max to limit the number of plants advertised on the supply reports (availability reports). Although you may have a supply with a thousand plants, you may not want to advertise that fact and reveal that you have a limited number. If the actual quantity available drops below the Advertised Max Stock, the availability report will show the actual number available.
- Price List
- Use th price list property to determine which catalog price lists will show the supply. If the supply is available only to select customers, ie. premium customers, wholesale customers, retails customers, you can use the Price List property to include or exclude the supply from one catalog or another.
- Location
- The location field indicates the current location of the supply. If the same cataloged item is located in more than one location, create two supplies and set their locations respectively along with the quantity at each location.
- Production Cost
- The Production Cost field is for those who wish to estimate the cost required to ready each plant in the supply for sale. This property currently only prints on a select few reports, but with future programming, will form a part of the production cost. Stay tuned.
