"You sell plant material, not product codes."

PlantX.net uses actual botanical names and not strange product codes or SKUs to manage your inventory. As you know, botanical names can be rather long and difficult to type, but PlantX.net solves this problem by maintaining a list of materials. You need only enter the full botanical names one time. PlantX.net also maintains a list of over 7,000 botanical names entered by other users to speed up entry of your material list.

Most catalogs list many different sizes or forms of the same plant material. To avoid entering the same botanical names over and over again, PlantX.net keeps a master list of plant materials, or just materials for short. That way when you go to add a catalog item, you can easily select a material from your list.

Materials form the basis of all that happens in PlantX.net. This makes material names a requirement and should be the first thing entered into the system. See Material Names for details.

The material library is also where you enter information about each type of plant that you sell. The description and plant facts appear on your website or other documentation like tags and advertisements. Use the material library to provide descriptions of your plant material, classify and categorize and assign pictures.

For a quick start, enter only the material names first. The descriptions, plant facts and pictures can be added at a later time.
