The Inventory Batch Change is the option you should use when you need to make sweeping changes to your inventory (catalog) settings. This tool presents you with a sortable tree of inventoried catalog items and the ability to change one or more values at the same time. This is quite handy for changes in pricing, how plants are organized by type, or even what color you will use for tagging each material.

SCREENSHOT

The batch change dialog is split into two halves; the left for selecting the catalog items to change and the right for selecting values to change.

NOTE: Since this feature is changing a large number of catalog items at the same time. It may take longer than usual for the system to process the transaction.

Catalog Item Select

Select the catalog items to change by browsing the tree view and marking the entries that should receive the changes. You will notice that if you select a higher order node, e.g. a genus or specie, all nodes below it are also selected or deselected. This makes targeting large sections much easier and faster.

The real power of batch change comes from controlling the sort order. Use the sort button to rearrange the catalog items by different indexes. By doing so, you can sort and select on values like form, root, and grade to quickly group similar plants. Price changes can be done in batch by sorting on either root or grade and applying the price to similar size catalog items.

Value to Change

Use the various tabs to enter or select values that should be applied to the chosen catalog items. Each tab represents a value of the catalog item that can be changed. You can apply changes to one or more values at the same time. You will notice that if you make a change to the value in the tab, the tab will show an asterisk "*" where a change has been made. Once you have changed one or more values, pressing the OK button will apply the changes to all selected catalog items.

NOTE: If you make a change to a value in a tab and you decide that you no longer wish to alter that tab's value, YOU MUST CLOSE THE DIALOG AND START OVER. If you change a value and then decide you no longer wish to affect the selected catalog items, just changing the value back to its original setting does not prevent all values from being updated. This approach allows to you enter any value, including blank values to clear fields that may have many different settings. It is a good practice to select the values that you wish to change before you go through the processing of selecting the catalog items, that way if you make a mistake on your value changes, you will not have to start over.
